I was first introduced to essential oils about 12 years ago. I was intrigue by the whole idea of altering mood with just a plant oil. One of my favorite aunts was sitting around a campfire chatting with me, and pulled out this big case of sample oils. I was pretty amazed by how many different oils she had and all that they could do. A short time later I went to massage therapy school, and while I don't remember talking much about essential oils, I began to really see the healing abilities of plants and grew a deeper interest in living more in tune with my body.
Flash forward 6 more years or so, and a friend of mine introduced me to doTerra. Now, I am a researcher, not that that is my profession, but I love to research. I rarely make a decision without doing quite a bit of searching, and I work hard to see all sides of any picture. In this case two side of the medical coin, western and alternative medicine. They are beginning to work together more which I think is wonderful. Why not have the best of both worlds?
Anyway, it was about two years of me researching, partly because I was hesitant to be involved in a direct marketing company, partly because I was afraid of wasting my money on expensive "snake oil", and partly because I hadn't found enough information to make me comfortable to us them on my family. During this time I researched several companies, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that the health food store didn't have a high enough quality product, and why in the world they were so expensive. Why wouldn't they want to sell the very best oils? I went in to several stores, and walked out frustrated. No one to help me, no book to give me any help, and I couldn't even stand the smell of most of the oils. And why were doTerra oils high enough in quality to ingest, but the oils I was finding at the store telling me "do not ingest"? (hint: because they are either contaminated with synthetic fillers, or farmed using unhealthy practices).
Flash forward 2 MORE years. My husband deployed, and that very night the deployment curse hit. My little one went to bed just fine, and when I went to check on her she had spike fever, and was struggling to breath. I had 3 kids at the time, and the nearest hospital was 45 minutes away. I was wishing so badly in that moment that I had something to try. After a long night, I ordered a Family Physician Kit the very next day.
Since that time was have used essential oils faithfully for almost everything, but not exclusively. We also use a lot of homeopathic cold medicines, and use oils to support healing and help manage symptoms. In the last 5 years, I can't remember the timeline perfectly so let's say 5 years, we have been to the doctor very few times, Not because I am against it, quite the opposite actually. I have these tools at my finger tips, and I trust in the bodies ability to heal itself... MOST of the time. I love to research and research, and I trust my mothers intuition to tell me when enough is enough. And guess what? Out of the handful of times we have been in to the doctor for an illness, half of them we were told to keep a close watch and bring them back in a few more days, and their little bodies did exactly what they were supposed to. One time we were given an antibiotic for h pylori (which didn't work) and the other an antibiotic for an ear infection in 2 kids (because we were traveling and I didn't have the right oils!!). So in 5 years my 4 children have been medicated with a prescription drug 3 times collectively. I think that's really remarkable! Comment below, and tell me what oil you use first! Mine was breathe, which really helped with the breathing troubles my little one was having.
